Brown vs Brown has decided to take a bit of a break, not sure when we'll be back yet. Other projects and people moving to other countries, as well as a general need to leave things hang a bit in order to retrieve the necessary freshness could be seen as our main reason for this break.
bye for now...

Nice review in the Volkskrant: Holland's main (serious) newspaper:
'OBSESSIEVE DRANG NAAR MUZIKALE RECALCITRANTIE
jazz-Brown vs Brown-****

Official CD-presentation
20 January 2010
We are very proud to announce that our new album, entitled 'Odds and Unevens' has been released by the renowned American label Cuneiform. (Claudia Quintet, Gutbucket, Robert Wyatt, Led Bib a.o.)
The album was recorded in the south of France by the illustorous Bob Drake in december 2008, mixed by Sandor Caron, and mastered by Gijs van Klooster.
We feel it captures the progress we've been making as a band over the last few years. Compared to our first cd which was a representation of what we did live, this time we went for a more produced sound, a richer palate. It is still our signature sound, but we had fun adding instruments like vocals, baritone-sax, banjo, vibraphone and a bunch of other stuff.
Some of the new songs can be heard in our hear/see section.
eeehhh... hope you like...get the album soon...
order the physical album via our distribution channel wayside music
or download via itunes, kazaa, altnet, 7digital
Album reviews:
"Amsterdam-based Brown vs Brown play a mixture of avant-garde rock and
jazz. "Odds And Unevens" sounds exactly like the title suggests: odd
meters and uneven rhythms. This is superb stuff. The sax, bass, drums,
guitar and vibraphone sound like they're one instrument. Beautiful
melodic and angular compositions, great solos, zappa-esque twists. In
Michael Jackson's words: This is it!" (united mutations)
(babyblaue prog-reviews)
07 October 2009
We'll be touring Europe to promote the new album from 10 until 25 of april 2010, summer 2010, and from november 26 until december 13 2010, apart from playing in Holland the rest of the year. If you have some booking-ideas, please let us know...
Coming winter we won't be doing much live playing. People are off to other continents or busy with other projects (see our links section for an update on some of our individual projects), and we will be composing new songs for our 3rd CD.
But we'll be back with a vengeance in spring 2010...
25 January 2009
This spring we'll be presenting a new program, and a slightly altered sound. Here's the project-description:
After 5 years of joint creative exploits, playing over one hundred concerts throughout Europe, Brown vs Brown has developed a musical universe that categorically denies stylistic description. Seemingly contrasting elements clash and recombine: meticulous composition vs. improvisation, complexity vs. raw energy, and neck-breaking stumble rhythms vs. irresistable swing.
Yet, perhaps the biggest miracle of all is that four utter individualists have become such a close unit, thanks to (or despite) all those years and all the miles. By now, Brown vs Brown has become notorious for their super tight, telepathic ensemble-playing. They are more than the sum of their parts, a band in every sense of the word.
For the upcoming program, fresh challenges are set. In new compositions by Bruinsma, Kimman and Nybacka the focus lies on investigating sound and colour more extensively. Through a broader palate, extended instrumentation, vocal interventions and a deeper understanding of each other’s specific voices, the band treats themselves and the audience to a new horizon once again. Think architectural blueprints drawn with coloured pencils…
12 December 2008
Hey. We're back.
'The november tour' was great this year, lots of fun places and people on the road. We enjoyed playing our new songs, and taking our sound-guy Sandor on the road was A: great fun , B: making us sound good , C: keeping us from having to build entire PA-systems ourselves. He's a keeper...
eeehhh... thank you very much to Neza, Marco, Kati, Martin, Tommasso, Alberto, Emilio, Marco, Fabiano, Manlio, Fransesco, Ron, Bob, Felix, Gustl, Susi, Pixn, Christian & Bianca, Katja, Nicky and countless others (whose names might have slipped by now) who provided us with food, beds, drinks, money, and good times.
Touring is ok.
12 December 2008
So straight after our last tour we drove from Rome to the south of France where for 5 days we've been recording our 2nd CD.
We're all extremely excited about the results, even if we haven't heard it back since: a very inspiring countryside, band in shape, dogs, donkeys and a horse, and the very inspiring presence of the great Bob Drake, made this a very special Brown week. Lots of experimenting going on: overdubs, percussion, singing, banjo, baritone sax. We will hit you hard when it comes out.
but eeeehhh... first let's do some mixing...
12 December 2008
Next Brown-tour: april/may 2009. We'll be playing Holland, Germany, Australia and Slovenia in april, and Finland in may.
Got some good advice for spots to play? Please dont hesitate to contact us...
Dankesjeun
11 November 2008
Finally we're heading for some adventurous times again! This weekend we'll leave for a seven-day tour that will involve some ridiculous driving. For the first time we'll take our sound-guy Sandor along; hey, it might even make us sound better, thank God he carries stuff as well...
After which we will directly drive on to the South of France, where we have a 5-day studio period set up. Here we'll record our 2nd CD that will premiere a bunch of new pieces that we present next year in our upcoming project 'Odds and Unevens', Brown as ever, still, with more colours.
Looking forward to a Pyrennees overdub-frenzy. Yis.
Come check us out if you can, here's our coming dates:
